All people from 50 years on living in a canton with an organized screening program are invited to undergo screening. The screening programs receive from their canton the names and addresses of the people who are to be invited. This is part of the cantons' public health objectives.

The screening program in your canton will be informed if you have already been screened. If you participate in this study, the screening program will share your data with the research team. We comply with the strict Swiss data protection regulations. Any inappropriate use of your data is prohibited.

An undesirable effect that could occur during this study is a possible increase in anxiety linked to information about colon cancer. If you feel any anxiety, please talk to your GP or contact the research team. Screening remains a very good way of avoiding colon cancer.

This depends on the screening examination you choose. If you decide to take a FIT test, you'll pay around CHF 5. If you prefer a colonoscopy, you'll pay between CHF 80 and 160. The price of a colonoscopy depends on the complexity of the examination. For example, if the doctor finds polyps, he has to remove them and send them to a laboratory for analysis, which involves additional costs.

The instructions are different for each canton. Consult the website of your canton's screening program for

complete information:

The period between the study invitation and the screening invitation can take up to six weeks. You will receive the screening invitation and an information brochure in the next few weeks.

Option 1:
Ask the patient to join the study by registering on our website (using the QR code on the letter). The patient must fill in two online forms. After that, our research team will send them a brochure and the usual screening invitation with instructions.

Option 2:
If the patient wants to get a FIT test right away, you can register them in your system as usual. However, because the patient is already in the study workflow (in MC-SIS), there may be a problem (they may be blocked). If this happens, contact your cantonal colorectal cancer screening program and ask them to remove the patient from the study. Then you can register them in your system.
